Slimming Tea
Thursday, August 10th, 2006If you need to lose a few pounds to look and feel great at the beach this year, but you haven’t put yourself on a strict diet in the early spring, then you definitely need a very fast and easy way to lose those pounds. If you ask yourself is that possible – yes, it is with drinking some sort of slimming tea for a couple of weeks.
If you think that’s a miracle and it can’t be true, maybe you are right because slimming teas do not work the same way for all, but first let me tell you a few things about slimming teas that you should know.
Slimming teas has always been popular for their miraculous weight loss results they usually promise, which in fact turned out to be very unrealistic. They were also proven to have some negative side effects, but ONLY after regular use for a long period after the recommended course of taking.
In fact slimming teas are not as bad as they were said to be, as long as you use them according to the directions for use and the recommended course of taking.
However you should avoid any types of slimming teas that have no details of how exactly the tea helps slimming, have no directions or recommended course of taking, and have vague ingredients or don’t have any listed ingredients .
The slimming teas are two types: diet herbal teas containing laxatives or diuretics, such as senna, and the other containing herbs that suppress appetite, such as ma huang.
However you should not confuse green tea, chamomile, ginger, peppermint and many other herbal teas with the slimming teas. They have nothing to do in common. Except for the herbal ingredients, they have completely different mechanisms of work.
Slimming teas containing senna SHOULD NOT be used on daily basis for more than a couple of weeks. This herb is a strong laxative and works by irritating the colon to empty faster. A prolonged usage can weaker your colon muscular walls and makes them sluggish. This may cause your colon not function properly on its own without taking the slimming tea.
Here are some more facts about the prolonged usage of slimming teas you should know:
- slimming teas can cause dehydration from chronic diarrhea, which may lead to deficit in minerals
- potassium can be such mineral, and it is very important for muscles and its low levels can cause malfunction and weakness to your heart, such as cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat)
- some studies have suggested that prolonged usage of senna may cause colon cancer
I didn’t mean to scare you to death though, but you should know the pros and cons of using slimming teas.
Relax, none of these will happen if you consult your doctor before taking the slimming tea, and if you don’t prolong its usage. In fact we are not talking about fast weight loss diet that will make all your extra pounds vanish – of course NOT.
If you’ve decided to take some sort of slimming tea anyway, you should do that few times a day and don’t forger to combine that intake with lowered food intake and increased exercising. Actually it’s mostly the lowered food intake and the increased exercising that make you lose weight, but the slimming tea helps you as well by:
+ increasing your metabolism and your body starts to burn calories and fats faster
+ preventing your body from storing fats and toxins
+ speeding up your colon empting
+ suppressing your appetite and you consume less food than usual …
… and so on depending on the type of slimming tea.
If you take properly the slimming tea and combine it with an easy to follow low calorie diet and regular exercises for a week or two, you can successfully lose between 4 to 5 or even more pounds. It all depends on your personal diet and exercise plan.
